Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The digestive tract and intestines are impacted by the clinical illness known as irritable bowel syndrome. Common symptoms include constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, and abdominal pain. The goal of Ayurvedic treatment for IBS is to address the underlying cause of the illness by employing herbal remedies. It takes into account one's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. It encourages you to consider all three when coping with medical issues.

Ayurvedic medicine is a centuries-old holistic approach to wellness. It’s a form of treatment that encompasses the well-being of body, mind, and spirit. It is believed that toxins or an imbalance in one of the doshas cause IBS. Restoring equilibrium is the goal of Ayurvedic medicine. It accomplishes this by using natural remedies to get rid of IBS symptoms. It also seeks to rid the body of any poisons.

Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome:

Symptoms of IBS vary but are usually present for a long time. The most common include: Belly pain, cramping or bloating that is related to passing stool, Changes in appearance of stool, Changes in how often you are passing stool.

WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR?

See a doctor if you have a persistent change in bowel habits or other symptoms of IBS. They may mean a more serious condition, such as colon cancer. More-serious symptoms include: Weight loss, Diarrhoea at night, Rectal bleeding, Iron deficiency anemia, Unexplained vomiting and Pain that isn't relieved by passing gas or stool.

IBS AND AYURVEDA:

Considering the condition to be Grahani Roga, Ayurveda holds that food is converted into energy and nutrients by the Agni, or digestive fire. Anything you eat is held in the duodenum until Agni has finished digesting it. Once digestion is finished, the food proceeds to the following phase. If the food isn't completely digested for any reason, you can feel ill. This could be a sign of an issue with your Agni. Insufficient digestion might cause your body to produce Ama, or toxins. A weaker Agni and the poisons that build up as a result may cause symptoms of IBS. Therefore, the first step in Ayurvedic therapy is to address the Ama. After that, the doshas are treated. These treatments may alleviate symptoms within a few days. In some situations, though, correct treatment of the imbalance could take a lengthy period. You must first balance the three doshas in order to feel healed, as well-being is dependent on their balance.

IBS and its Treatment in Ayurveda:

Ayurveda attempts to correct the agni ( digestive power) within you so that you have a proper digestion within proper time. The Tripura purifying method has produced astounding outcomes. The panchakarma procedures, especially virechana and basti plays a vital role. Use of the panchakola preparations are advised for the purpose of Deepana(stimulant) and pachana(appetizing) action.

Snehapana (oleation) and Swedana (fomentation) procedures are adapted after which the abhyanga (medicated oil application on body) is administered over body. The process of Takra prayoga ( use of buttermilk) is used to treat Grahani Roga.

Grahani Roga can also be caused by the disturbed mental health; considering it proper practice of yoga , meditation and pranayama is recommended when with a healthy diet and lifestyle.
