Viddha karma or Siravyadha is a type of bloodletting therapy mentioned in Ayurvedic traditional texts. It is considered as half treatment in surgery. The vitiated blood is let out to protect the health or to cure the disease. The amount of blood removed should be according to the strength of the body and vitiated Dosha.
Indications of Viddha Karma -
The following disease conditions are indicated for Viddha Karma or bloodletting therapy. They are erosion in oral cavity, redness in eyes, Secretion from nose with bad smell, sensation of foul smell, bad odor from mouth, inflammatory condition of the abdomen, bleeding gums, erysipelas, hemorrhagic disorders, metabolic disorders, abscess, blood discharge with urine, vaginal discharge, gout, discolouration, loss of appetite, heaviness in body, febrile condition, belching with bitter and acidic taste, heaviness in the body, unexplained fatigue, excessive unreasonable anger, confusion, excessive sweating with or without foul odor, unreasonable behavior disorders, tremors, unexplained fatigue, itching, skin disorders, filariasis, inflammatory condition of neck and throat region, gum inflammation, lip disorders, eye diseases, increased toxic load in blood, disorders of breast tissue, heaviness in the body.
